Shawn Ahn-Lee is a mixed media artist whose work explores the layered complexities of emotion, memory, and cultural identity. With a background in illustration and animation for acclaimed productions such as Ren and Stimpy, Duckman, and Rugrats the Movie. Shawn brings a distinctive blend of storytelling, texture, and color to the canvas. Drawing on the frugality and resourcefulness shaped by the immigrant experience, Shawn constructs collages from recycled materials—painted and dyed paper, paper towels, and tape. Each layer reflects the trials and tributes woven throughout life, both lived and imagined. Shawn’s series explore dreams, myths, and “Fireworks”—a conceptual body of work where layered textures become a metaphor for the heart and self, moving beyond the physical to invite deeper reflection. For Shawn, complexity is people’s lives. The work plays on layering—each memory, each story, each texture—inviting viewers to pause, contemplate, and find meaning within our shared experience.
