Born in 1974 Tehran, Iran, I specialize in drawing with calligraphic ink and a fountain pen, inspired by traditional Iranian miniature painting and calligraphy. My work is deeply influenced by literature, poetry, philosophical stories, mystical music, and mythology. From 2003 to 2012, I regularly participated in individual and group exhibitions.
I currently reside in Orange County, California where I continue to actively draw. I work in architectural design work as Owner of Geramy Brothers Design. Artists such as Farhad Gavzan, Georgia O’Keeffe, Mark Tobey, Georges Mathieu and Jean Dubuffet have been key inspirations. Inspired by my deep interest in traditional Iranian art, I strive to create a unique atmosphere in my drawings. My goal is to remain faithful to traditional ideas without merely repeating them. By drawing on literary meanings and metaphors, I aim to re-imagine traditional artistic spaces in a modern context, reflecting the current political and social atmosphere in Iran. This approach allows the audience to engage with the images on a personal level, forming their own interpretations without relying on familiar forms.
Calligraphy art techniques is to repeat the word many times so that the surface of the work becomes textured. After that, I used this technique and repeated the lines, like a ring that is created by the rain in the water and sinks together, I find the new forms and added new textures to them little by little. The study of the repetition of forms gradually showed itself in the architectural designs of the urban space and was seen as a personal signature in the works.
Utilizing oriental ink and calligraphy techniques, my work likely emphasizes the flow and movement of penstrokes, capturing both the aesthetic beauty and the emotional expression behind each stroke.
The interaction between the ink and the absorbent paper creates a variety of textures and tonal variations, from deep blacks to light grays, contributing to a rich visual depth. My art principles often focus on harmony, balance, and simplicity. These principles are reflected in the composition and execution of my work. My medium connects to a long tradition of Iranian art, carrying cultural and historical significance. This adds a layer of meaning to your work, as it draws from and contributes to a centuries-old artistic practice.
