Born in a small town in Illinois, art has been part of Mercedese’s life since she could grasp a paintbrush. Beginning with sign painting alongside her mother, Mercedese has worked in oil, clay and acrylic. She graduated from Cal State Long Beach with an emphasis on fabric design but credits over 40 years of experience in a variety of mediums for developing a unique, extensive skill set. Painting is her passion.
Most recently she is working on several series of everyday objects. Shoes, eyeglasses, nuts, etc. She chooses somewhat unusual subject matter, but these are exactly the types of objects Mercedese finds interesting. She uses vibrant colors that reveal specks of unexpected underpainting. This technique encourages the viewer to take a closer look at the ordinary.
