Jim Prothero is the son of two artists and was raised to draw and paint in his home, which always included an art studio. His father, Clifford Prothero, ran the Art Department for Lockheed Aircraft. Jim has studied drawing and painting at various colleges and studied watercolor under Art Lugena. He is the Chair of the Spring Show at the Mission Viejo Library for the Saddleback Art League, and paints watercolor and gouache. He especially loves to paint the Southwest, irises, and is currently working on a series of portraits of Native American women to help raise awareness of Native American women disappearing in alarming numbers.
